Speaker- George Abraham

On 4th December, KNUTS.in facilitated a thought-provoking session for a leading medical technology company where VoV George Abraham shared his inspiring journey and what keeps him going.

George Abraham is a social entrepreneur, inspirational speaker, and disability activist. He was born in London in 1958 and has been visually impaired since the age of 10 months. He graduated in Mathematics and post-graduated in Operations Research from St Stephen’s College, Delhi University.

He started his career in advertising in 1982. His professional life took a sharp turn when he visited a school for the blind in 1988. He then went on to launch cricket for the blind in India in 1990. He set up the World Blind Cricket Council and was elected as its Founding Chairman in 1996. He also conceived and organized the inaugural World Cup of Cricket for the Blind in 1998 in New Delhi. In response to the realization that “Blindness was not the real problem but the mindset was,” George set up Score Foundation, India, and launched Project Eyeway, a one-stop knowledge resource on living a life with blindness. Eyeway shares information, connects people with resources, and fights discrimination.

George is an Ashoka fellow and has been honored with numerous awards, including the Sanskriti Award in 1995, the Limca Book of Records People of the Year in 2007, and the C F Andrews Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2015 by St Stephen’s College.

Today George travels both in India and abroad to talk about his life learnings, his journey as a social entrepreneur, and his life as a person with a disability.
